Sophia saved the initial shot by Katie Cox, the Oxford captain, but KATIE LITCHFIELD followed up to score from the rebound. ![]() ![]() The stalemate continued and it looked like the teams would finish the first half goalless until Oxford won a penalty corner in the 34th minute. Neither side mustered anything resembling a clear chance until a quick Oxford break in the 16th minute was denied by Sophia Barclay who stretched out her left leg to save the first shot on goal. Although Fareham won two early penalty corners they struggled to create scoring opportunities as Oxford did a very good job containing any threat. The first half was played at a very high tempo from the start as both sides probed for an opening. Oxford's promotion hopes had been dented by a 3-0 home loss to Oxford Hawks 2s on the Saturday but with two matches against Fareham still to play they knew that a win could put them back into contention. ![]() After being held in check before the break Fareham fought back strongly in the second half, winning 10 PCs, but just couldn't find the equalizer they deserved.įareham began the game with just Kiera Denham missing from the side that beat Trojans 2s 2-0 the previous day. Fareham suffered their first defeat of the season on Sunday, in game fifteen, as Oxford edged a fiercely competitive encounter with a goal just before half time. ![]()
